Transforming Your Thought Life for Teens by Sarah Geringer

When I was a young teen, I spent the night at my next-door-neighbor Tracy’s home. Once we were tucked in for the night, we started telling scary stories.

This was a very bad idea and I knew it. I have always been overly sensitive to anything scary. But no one wants to admit they’re a baby, so I played along as we tried to top one another for scariness.

Suddenly, we both were convinced we saw red, glowing eyes from one of Tracy’s dolls. That was it for me. Screaming and crying and certain I was being pursued by something demonic, I flew out of Tracy’s room. Down the hall, out the side door, across the side yard and into my home. My parents were innocently sitting watching tv when I banged into the room, and it was quite some time before they calmed me enough to get to sleep.

This wasn’t the first time I was sabotaged by an out-of-control thought life, and it certainly would not be the last. I was well into adulthood before I understood the possibility of controlling my thoughts…instead of allowing them to control me.
